Introduction Burlington is known as "Queen City", College town and is also the economic and cultural hub of the region. Burlington was named after the Earl of Burlington. Burlington is on Lake Champlain and covers a total area of of 15.5 square miles (40.1 km²) of which 10.6 square miles (27.4 km²) is land and 4.9 square miles (12.7 km²) of it is water.
Burlington lies roughly 40 miles (65 km) northwest of the state capital in Montpelier, about 70 miles (110 km) north of Rutland, and 95 miles (150 km) southeast of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Burlington enjoys a moderate climate with the lake modifying the climatic conditions of the city preventing it from severity. There are four frost-free months in the summer and three months of almost entirely below-freezing weather in the winter. Annual precipitation is around 1 meter of rainfall equivalent distributed fairly equally over the year. Total annual snowfall is generally slightly over 78.8 inches (2 m).
